Built for the moment someone has to trust the number

Buildbox's agents find the friction real users hit. A market wary of AI hallucination had no reason to believe them, so we built the launch film and rebuilt the product around the evidence.

Overview

Buildbox is a Y Combinator company building agent analytics. Its agents run a live product the way real users do, find the friction costing teams activation and retention, and return each one as a ranked issue the team can reproduce.

MOTION DESIGN

A launch video that sells the outcome,
not the interface

Buildbox had a public announcement on the calendar and two weeks to be ready for it. The only screens that existed were AI-generated first drafts, and a film built on those would have sold the product short. A hype reel would have pulled the wrong crowd for a tool bought by product teams. We built the film around the story instead of the screens. Friction users can't articulate, agents finding it, tickets opening in Linear and GitHub, then activation, retention and conversion moving together. It ran on the day of the announcement, the first thing anyone outside the company saw of Buildbox.

PRODUCT SYSTEM

A product that looks built, not generated

Buildbox shipped fast, the way a two person company has to. But the product’s visual language reflected the tools used to build it, creating a new challenge: users began to associate its generated interface with a generated product, regardless of what was happening under the hood. To move beyond the AI generated aesthetic, we introduced a modern skeuomorphic approach that built on Buildbox’s handcrafted, interactive character while giving it a more distinctive and intentional visual language. From there, we developed a fully customized, functional design system designed to create consistency across the product and scale with the company.

Product Usability

Turning AI findings into evidence
buyers believe

People don’t automatically trust an AI’s opinion. When Buildbox told buyers what was wrong with their product, the risk of hallucinations made that trust hardest to earn. Midway through the sprint, the product pivoted from passive analysis to proactive guidance. We redesigned each finding as a clear argument: the outcome, what caused it, what it was costing the business, and the evidence behind it. Each issue showed the user’s full journey, including the moment they dropped off. Findings and evidence now live in the same view, ending with a clear next step: create a ticket and take action.
